Journal Entry #1
Inspiration for my second collection of poetry, “Regards from Beaver Lake”.
Summer had passed and autumn had begun to adorn the trees in decorative golden hues. My wife, Erin, and I had been invited to a couples getaway to Beaver Lake in upstate New Jersey. Erin wasn’t feeling well enough to go on the trip, but encouraged me to go and enjoy the serenity that the lake had to offer.
This memory finds me on one of the last nights of my trip. I had already enjoyed many long and relaxing days bathing in the tranquility of Beaver Lake. On this night, I found myself drifting to sleep while listening to the sound of muffled voices and laughter in the room over, the noise trickling through the crack under my door. In a state of half sleep, my mind wandered to the lake and its unknown depths, marveling at the secrets and mysteries it must hold.
When I woke up the next morning, the poem Regards from Beaver Lake was already waiting in my fingertips. I let the calm of Beaver Lake wash over me as the poem left my mind, my pen pouring the words down on paper.
And just like that, my second book was born.
