Journal Entry #2
A poem in progress from Steven’s unreleased third book, “They Can’t All Be Scars”.
My process is very tactile. There is no given right time for me to write a poem. The poem just comes to me. Whether it is based on a memory that has been newly recalled, a simple moment between my wife and me, or an uncalculated observation. The only thing I know for sure is the urge to put pen to paper. I’m not one to sit down at a computer and type away, as my thoughts don’t flow as easily as when I have a pen in my hand. This means that all of my first-draft poems are scribbled across whatever scrap of paper I can get my hands on before my thoughts escape into the wild abyss of my subconscious.
